The
history of the internet begins in 1957 when the soviet union launched Sputnik,the
first atificail sattelite.In response to this display of Soviet Technical
expertise,the U.S government resolved to improve it's science and technical
infrastructure.One of the resulting intiatives was the Advanced Research
Projects Agency (ARPA),created by the department of Defense.ARPA
swung into action with a project to design a computer system that could
survive nuclear attack.The plan was to construct a network geographicaly
despersed computer that would continue to function even if one of the computer
on the network was destroyed.In 1969 more network creats an internetwork
or internet,so ARPANET was one of the first examples of internet(with
a lowercase i). Gradually,more and more networks were conneced to the ARPANET,and
became known as the internet.(with an uppercase I ).
So the internet is essentially a network of networks.
Today the internet is the most widely used network
in teh world,connecting over 20,000 computer networks,in more than 130
countries,with an estimated 30 million users.Each
